Days after the oil minister distanced himself from the question of another hike in petrol prices, oil marketing companies have taken action. Indian Oil Corporationhas raised petrol prices by another Rs 1.80 per litre from midnightAlthough regular fluctuations occur, the price of fuel has been steadily rising for many years. In the first half of this year, the average price of unleaded petrol increased by nearly 10 pence per litre and is expected to climb.

Vadodara Marathon to be held in the city on February 5, 2012 would be the country’s first large scale international marathon to be organised in a non-metro city, its director Tejal Amin said here today. She said that the first two editions of the marathon have gone on to break all records, cementing the citys spot on the AIMS international Half Marathon calendar.

The Vadodara international half marathon 2012 will have categories for 21-km, 5-km run, and 15-km half marathon run, she stated.
Accredited to the Association of International Marathon and Distance Races (AIMS), Vadodara Marathon is the recipient of the AIMS gold medal for “smallest city, biggest Marathon”, said Amit Bhatnagar, another director of Vadodara Marathon.

Steve Jobs visited India only once — as a backpacker in 1973 looking for spiritual enlightenment -– but his legacy deeply influenced the creative community.
Jobs had journeyed to India in the late 1970s, with cash he had kept employed as a technician at a video sport constructor in the US.
He allegedly travelled to the Neem Karoli Baba at his Kainchi Ashram with a Reed College ally Daniel Kottke in seek of religious enlightenment.
As per Wikipedia :
Among the most well known of Maharaj-ji’s disciples were Ram Dass, the author of Be Here Now, teacher/performer Bhagavan Das, Lama Surya Das and the musicians Jai Uttal and Krishna Das. Other notable devotees include humanitarian Larry Brilliant and his wife Girija, as well as Dada Mukerjee (former professor at Allahabad University, Uttar Pradesh, India). Baba Hari Dass was also a disciple who maintained one of the ashrams before heading to the USA to become a spiritual teacher. Steve Jobs, along with his friend Dan Kottke, traveled to India in 1973 to meet Maharaj-ji, but did not arrive before the guru expired in September of that year.[2]In her 2010 interview to ELLE magazine, Julia Roberts disclosed that a picture of Neem Karoli Baba drew her to Hinduism and now she is practicing it along with her family. The increasing emergence of superbugs is a direct consequence of antibiotic misuse. Misuse of an antibiotic results in incomplete elimination of bacterial infections, which, in turn, leads to survival of strains of bacteria that have evolved to resist that antibiotic. Superbugs can be dangerous because of the limited number of treatment options available. Among some of the more common superbugs are methicillin-resistant Staph aureus (MRSA) and multiple-drug or extensively drug resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB and XDR-TB).
Why are super bugs a problem: The gene, NDM-1, which is apparently widespread in parts of India, has been identified in just three U.S. patients, all of whom had received treatment in India and recovered. But the gene’s ability to affect different bacteria and make them resistant to many medications marks a worrying development in the fight against infectious diseases, which can mutate to defeat humans’ antibiotic arsenal.

Tips for Superbug Prevention

Don’t demand a prescription of antibiotics from your doctor, unless he or she has diagnosed your affliction as a bacterial infection that requires it.
Take all of the antibiotics as prescribed, even if the symptoms subside.
Never share your antibiotics with friends or family, even if you are 100% sure that they have the same infection. Let your doctor do the exam and write a new prescription.

Ms. Chanda Kochhar Profile :
Ms. Chanda Kochhar is the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of ICICI Bank Limited. She began her career with ICICI as a Management Trainee in 1984 and has thereon successfully risen through the ranks by handling multidimensional assignments and heading all the major functions in the Bank at various points in time.
In 1993 when ICICI decided to enter commercial banking, she was deputed to ICICI Bank as a part of the core team to set up the bank. When ICICI set up the Infrastructure Industry Group in 1996 to create dedicated industry expertise in the areas of Power, Telecom and Transportation sector, she was handpicked and made incharge of the Infrastructure Industry Group. In July 2000, she was chosen to head the Retail Finance division of ICICI and has been instrumental in scaling up the business. In April 2001, she was promoted as an Executive Director, heading the retail business in the Bank. In April 2006, she was appointed as the Deputy Managing Director with responsibility for both Corporate and Retail banking business of ICICI Bank and from October 2006 to October 2007 she handled the International and Corporate businesses of ICICI. In October 2007, she was appointed as the Joint Managing Director & CFO. Steve Jobs passed away

Steve Jobs, the Apple co-founder and former CEO, has died at the age of 56 after a long and highly public battle with cancer..
On August 24, Jobs stepped down, stating that he could no longer meet his duties and expectations as Apple’s chief executive. Jobs was diagnosed with and treated for a rare type of pancreatic cancer in 2004, but he said the 2009 absence was not a resurgence of that cancer. He took an unexplained medical leave of absence in January.

The co-founder of Apple Inc, one of the world’s great entrepreneurs, was surrounded by his wife and immediate family
when he died in Palo Alto, California.
His death was announced by Apple and sparked an immediate outpouring of sadness and sympathy from world leaders, competitors and other businessmen including Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates and Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg.
Apple’s board also released its own statement.
We are deeply saddened to announce that Steve Jobs passed away today,” the board said. “Steve’s brilliance, passion and energy were the source of countless innovations that enrich and improve all of our lives. The world is immeasurably better because of Steve. “His greatest love was for his wife, Laurene, and his family.

Our hearts go out to them and to all who were touched by his extraordinary gifts. John Lasseter, chief creative officer and Ed Catmull, president of Walt Disney and Pixar Animation Studios, released their own joint statement. Jobs was chief executive at Pixar, the digital anaimation house that gave the world Cars, The Incredibles and Toy Story, before it was acquired by Disney in 2006. “Steve Jobs was an extraordinary visionary, our very dear friend and the guiding light of the Pixar family,” Lasseter and Catmull said. “He saw the potential of what Pixar could be before the rest of us, and beyond what anyone ever imagined.

Steve took a chance on us and believed in our crazy dream of making computer animated films; the one thing he always said was to simply ‘make it great.’ He is why Pixar turned out the way we did and his strength, integrity and love of life has made us all better people. He will forever be a part of Pixar’s DNA. Our hearts go out to his wife Laurene and their children during this incredibly difficult time.”

Three scientists shared the 2011 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, announced the Nobel jury — the Nobel Assembly at Swedish Karolinska Institute in Stokcholm on Monday.
The Nobel Prize for Medicine/Physiology is being awarded jointly to Bruce A. Beutler and Jules A. Hoffmann ”for their discoveries concerning the activation of innate immunity” and to Ralph M. Steinman ”for his discovery of the dendritic cell and its role in adaptive immunity“. While Beutler and Hoffman received half the prize, while Steinmen received the other half. Telangana news-Telangana temples shutdown for statehood
It is not just the ordinary people in Telangana who are affected by the ongoing general strike. Even the temples have been shut by priests — all for the cause of a separate state.
Hundreds of temples across the region, comprising Hyderabad and nine other districts, stopped
arjitha sevas and other special rituals as priests and other employees joined the ‘people’s strike’ which entered its 15th day.
Except for darshan, the temples have stopped rituals like arjitha sevas, abhishekha and arachana on a call given by the Joint Action Committee of Telangana priests and employees of endowment department, which manages the affairs of the temples.
Upendra Sharma, one of the top priests and leaders of JAC, said the action was in tune with the aspirations of four crore people of Telangana who are fighting for a statehood.
According to officials of the endowment departments, the temples would lose huge income because of the protest.
Sri Lakshminarasimha Swamy Temple at Yadagirigutta in Nalgonda district, also called the Tirupati of Telangana, wore a deserted look on Tuesday as the temple was shut for all rituals.
Hundreds of people throng the temple every day and the strike is likely to result in the loss of Rs 4-5 lakh.
